Who is a canned multipack for?

Start with how many lunches you are packing and whether you want plain water or a flavoured sparkling drink.

Packed-lunch planners

Individual 330ml cans can be packed one at a time for work, study or a commute. Check the drink as well as the portion size: the relevant cans include plain still, plain sparkling and flavoured sparkling options.

Flavoured sparkling-water drinkers

A small multipack may suit several lunches without committing to a case. If sugar or particular ingredients matter to you, read both the nutrition panel and the ingredients list: Volvic’s sugar-free flavoured sparkling cans list citric acid, flavourings and sweeteners.

Regular household or workplace buyers

A 24-can case is more practical when several people will use it or lunches are packed repeatedly. Before ordering, check where the case will go and whether the supplier delivers to your area.

What should you check before choosing?

Choose the drink and pack quantity separately: the right water type does not necessarily come in the quantity you want to store.

Priority What to check Your needs
Portion and pack Check the volume per can, number of cans and total quantity. A 4 × 330ml multipack and a 24 × 330ml case both contain individual portions but require different amounts of storage. I pack only a few lunches at a time, so a small multipack is easier to use up. For regular or shared lunches, I could use a full case.
Water and fizz Check whether the can contains plain still water, plain sparkling mineral water or flavoured sparkling water. South Downs Water lists a 330ml still-water case, while evian identifies a 33cl sparkling can; a can listing alone does not establish a multipack. If I want water without fruit flavour, I need to distinguish the still and sparkling options before choosing a pack.
Ingredients Read the ingredients and nutrition information separately. Tesco’s Volvic Mango Passion 330ml can listing identifies the drink as sugar-free; Volvic’s flavoured sparkling-water ingredients include citric acid, flavourings, acesulfame K and sucralose. Fruit flavour appeals to me, but I want to know which sweeteners and other ingredients are in the can.
Format and delivery Confirm that the listing is for cans rather than bottles, then check current stock and delivery coverage. South Downs Water says its online shop accepts orders only in England and Wales. I need cans for lunch bags, and a case is useful only if I can have it delivered and use the quantity.
Disposal Check your local authority’s instructions for empty cans. England’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs says household collections must, by default, include metal among separately collected dry recyclables from 31 March 2026; that guidance is specific to England. I want to know how to dispose of the empty cans where I live, rather than assuming collection rules are identical across the UK.

What is easy to overlook?

  • Assuming a familiar water brand sells the same drink in cans

Retailer listings for Highland Spring, Buxton and own-label waters include bottled multipacks, while the identified evian sparkling can and Volvic flavoured sparkling cans are different products and formats.

Check the container type, volume and number of cans on the exact listing rather than relying on the brand name.

  • Reading “sugar-free” as “plain water”

Volvic’s flavoured sparkling-water ingredients list citric acid, flavourings and sweeteners. Its formulation is not the same as that of an unflavoured water.

Use the nutrition panel to check sugars and the ingredients list to check flavourings, acids and sweeteners.

  • Choosing a case for occasional lunches

Twenty-four individual cans take more storage space than a small multipack. South Downs Water also limits online orders to England and Wales.

Check the pack count, delivery area and how often you will use the cans before ordering a case.

  • Assuming recycling instructions are the same throughout the UK

England’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs guidance includes metal in household dry-recyclable collections from 31 March 2026, but it does not set a single collection instruction for every UK nation.

Empty the can and follow your local authority’s current collection and preparation instructions.

Which brands and retailers are relevant?

These references cover different drinks and containers; a bottled multipack is an alternative, not evidence that an equivalent canned multipack exists.

Volvic

Volvic’s Touch of Fruit Sparkling range includes 330ml flavoured cans and, according to Volvic UK, 4 × 330ml multipacks.

  • The Volvic UK Strawberry page describes a sugar-free drink with 2 kcal per 330ml serving.
  • The listed Strawberry ingredients include citric acid, flavouring, acesulfame K and sucralose. A Tesco listing for the Mango Passion 4-pack was marked out of stock when reviewed, so check current availability.

Evian

evian identifies a 33cl can of plain sparkling mineral water for the UK.

  • The can offers a plain sparkling option rather than a flavoured-water formulation.
  • Confirm the pack count on a retailer listing if you need a multipack; the identified can format does not itself establish one.

Highland Spring

Highland Spring describes still, sparkling and multipack options in its range; Tesco and Sainsbury’s list Highland Spring bottled multipacks.

  • The listed bottled multipacks provide an alternative when cans are not essential.
  • Check the exact product format: a bottled multipack does not establish a comparable canned pack.

Buxton

Buxton presents still and sparkling mineral-water choices, and Tesco and Sainsbury’s list Buxton bottled multipacks.

  • A bottled multipack may meet the need for individual lunch portions when the container need not be a can.
  • Confirm the container on the exact listing if a canned multipack is required.

Tesco

Tesco lists own-label still and sparkling mineral water in 12 × 500ml bottles, alongside branded water products.

  • Its bottled multipacks offer a way to buy several individual portions when bottles are acceptable.
  • Its Volvic Mango Passion 4 × 330ml can listing was marked out of stock when reviewed; check the current listing before planning lunches around it.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s lists own-label still and sparkling spring water in 12 × 500ml bottles.

  • These are individual bottled portions for shoppers who do not require cans.
  • Check the container type before ordering; the cited own-label multipacks are bottles, not cans.

Questions about canned water for lunch

Is a 330ml can a practical packed-lunch portion?

It can be if you want an individual drink of that size. Volvic lists 330ml flavoured sparkling cans, evian identifies a 33cl sparkling can, and South Downs Water sells 330ml still-water cans. Check the pack count separately: the cited formats range from a small multipack to a 24-can case.

Is sugar-free flavoured sparkling water the same as plain water?

No. Volvic’s listed flavoured sparkling drinks are water-based and described as sugar-free, but their ingredients include citric acid, flavourings and sweeteners. If you want to avoid those additions, check the ingredients of a plain still or plain sparkling option.

Can I put an empty water can in household recycling?

Check your local authority’s instructions. In England, Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs guidance says household waste collectors must, by default, separately collect dry recyclables including metal from 31 March 2026. That guidance does not establish the collection instructions for Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

What does “spring water” mean on a label?

In its guidance for England, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs says water may be described as spring water only if it comes from an underground source tapped at a natural or drilled exit, is free of disease-causing parasites and bacteria, and has a source protected from pollution. The description identifies a type of water; it does not tell you whether a particular can size or pack quantity suits your lunches.
