Campers with a Nespresso Original machine
Nespresso UK lists a single assortment of 80 Original capsules. It is worth considering if you can use your machine at the campsite and want one box rather than several smaller packs.
Who is this for?
Groups using another pod system
If your machine takes Dolce Gusto, Tassimo or Lavazza A Modo Mio pods, start with its compatible format. You can then combine packs to cover the number of drinks your group plans to make.
Campers without electric hook-up
If you cannot power a compatible pod machine at your pitch, pods are not a practical main coffee plan. Choose a coffee format that works with the equipment you will have.
What should you check before buying?
Check the machine format and campsite power before working out how many prepared drinks to pack.
| Priority | What to check | Your needs |
|---|---|---|
| Machine fit | Read the exact capsule format on both pack and machine. Nespresso distinguishes Original from Vertuo; Tassimo uses T DISCs. For Lavazza A Modo Mio, confirm the machine model. | I need pods that will work with the machine I am taking, not just a familiar coffee brand. |
| Drink count | Nespresso UK lists an 80-capsule Original assortment, while NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto UK says its Magnum boxes contain 30 pods. Count prepared drinks, particularly when a recipe uses more than one pod. | One box would simplify packing, but I can combine compatible packs if they cover the drinks our group plans to make. |
| Campsite power | Confirm electric hook-up, the pitch rating, your machine’s rating and the load from other appliances. The Camping and Caravanning Club states that hook-ups on its Club Sites have maximum ratings of 10A or 16A. | Before carrying a machine and capsules, I want to know I can use my equipment at the pitch. |
| Milk and storage | Read ingredients and allergens on each drink pack; a Joybuy UK Tassimo Café Au Lait listing names milk ingredients. If you also pack food needing chilling, the Food Standards Agency advises storing it below 5°C. | Our group may need a suitable drink for someone avoiding milk, and I need a separate plan for any food that requires chilling. |
Packing mistakes to avoid
-
Buying Original capsules for a different machine
Nespresso Original and Vertuo are different formats; Tassimo and Lavazza A Modo Mio have their own compatibility requirements.
Match the pack’s stated format to the exact machine system before ordering.
-
Counting pods as prepared drinks without checking the recipe
NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto UK lists 30 pods in a Magnum box. Some milk-style drinks use more than one pod, so the pod total may not equal the drink total.
Work out how many complete drinks the chosen packs will make for your group.
-
Taking a machine without checking the hook-up
The Camping and Caravanning Club gives maximum hook-up ratings of 10A or 16A for its Club Sites; other appliances also contribute to the load.
Check the pitch allowance, machine rating and condition of your camping electrical equipment before you travel.
-
Assuming every pod drink is free from milk
A Joybuy UK listing for Tassimo Café Au Lait names skimmed milk powder and milk proteins. A drink’s name alone is not enough to check an allergen.
Read the ingredients and allergen statement on each pack before choosing drinks for the group.

Camping coffee-pod questions
Will Nespresso’s 80-capsule assortment work in every Nespresso machine?
No. Nespresso UK labels the 80-capsule assortment for its Original system and distinguishes Original capsules from Vertuo pods. Check which system your machine uses before buying.
Can I plan to use coffee pods without an electric hook-up?
Only if you have another suitable way to run the specific compatible machine. The Camping and Caravanning Club describes a leisure battery as providing 12V, which is not the same as a standard campsite electric hook-up; otherwise, plan a coffee format that works with your available equipment.
Will a campsite hook-up run my coffee machine?
Check the pitch’s rating against the machine and other appliances you intend to run at the same time. The Camping and Caravanning Club states that hook-ups on its Club Sites have maximum ratings of 10A or 16A; also check the condition of your hook-up equipment.
What should I check when packing milk-style pod drinks?
Read each pack’s ingredients and allergen statement: a Joybuy UK Tassimo Café Au Lait listing includes milk ingredients. If you pack separate food that needs chilling, the Food Standards Agency advises keeping it below 5°C.
