Who is this for?

Standing-desk programme editors

If you edit running orders, biographies, credits and proof PDFs while changing desk height, screen position matters as much as screen size. The Health and Safety Executive advises placing the top of the screen around eye level and the display about an arm’s length away.

Laptop-led event organisers

If you move between meetings, venue work and a standing desk, a USB-C connection may reduce cable changes. Check whether your laptop can send video over USB-C, how much charging power it needs and whether the monitor has the peripheral connections you use.

Layout and artwork reviewers

If you inspect covers, photographs, logos and dense page layouts alongside text, compare resolution, screen finish and stated colour specifications. A high refresh-rate label alone does not answer those programme-review needs.

What matters when choosing?

Check where the screen will sit at standing height, then decide how much of your work is document editing rather than fine visual review. Treat laptop docking as a separate compatibility decision: USB-C features vary by monitor and laptop.

Concern Buying checks Who this matters to
Standing screen position Compare the stated height-adjustment range with your desk setup. If using an arm, check the mounting pattern, supported weight and clamp fit. When my desk rises, I need the screen to meet my eye level rather than leaning towards it. Around 36% of consumers put standing-position screen placement first.
Document space and text Compare the exact screen size and resolution for viewing copy, schedules and PDFs together; check whether display scaling leaves text comfortable to read. If I keep a draft open beside a running order, I want room for both without losing readable text. For around 29% of consumers, document space is the primary concern.
Laptop connection Confirm USB-C video support on the laptop and compare its charging requirement with the monitor’s stated power delivery. When I move my laptop to the standing desk, I want to reconnect it without juggling display and charging cables. Around 21% of consumers place that simpler connection first.
Artwork and layout detail Compare resolution, screen finish and stated colour coverage. For print-critical approval, check the designer’s or printer’s colour-management process too. If I review small type, photographs and sponsor artwork, seeing layout detail takes precedence over extra document space. That is the leading need for around 14% of consumers.

Buying pitfalls

  • Assuming the standing desk will put the screen at the right height

Raising the desktop also raises the monitor, but the supplied stand may still leave the screen too low or too high. The Health and Safety Executive advises a screen position with its top around eye level and the display about an arm’s length away.

Measure your intended standing setup and compare it with the stand’s adjustment range. For a monitor arm, check mounting compatibility, monitor weight and the desk’s clamping surface.

An arm, suitable clamp or riser may be needed if the supplied stand cannot achieve the position you need.

  • Assuming any USB-C monitor offers one-cable docking

A USB-C socket does not establish that your laptop can send video through it or receive enough charging power from the monitor. Manufacturer specifications for the models discussed here state different power-delivery levels.

Check the laptop’s USB-C display capability and charging requirement against the exact monitor. Also check the connections required for your keyboard, storage and other desk equipment.

You may still need a separate charger, cable or dock for your particular laptop setup.

  • Choosing 4K without checking the stand

Additional pixels can matter when reviewing fine artwork or dense layouts, but resolution does not determine whether the screen can be positioned comfortably at standing height.

Choose resolution for the material you review, then assess stand adjustment or a compatible arm as a separate requirement.

  • Leaving the panel and connections unchecked after delivery

A problem with the display, stand, ports or product description is easier to describe to the seller once you have inspected the monitor and compared it with the listing.

Check the panel, stand movement, included cables and required connections promptly. Keep the listing details and contact the seller if the monitor is faulty or not as described.

Relevant brands to consider

These model examples show why the exact stand and connection specification matters more than the brand name alone.

Dell

Dell’s E2726DS is a 27-inch QHD option for document-led work, while the S2725DC is a separate QHD model with USB-C connectivity.

  • Dell specifies 130 mm of height adjustment, plus pivot, swivel and tilt, for the E2726DS.
  • Do not assume the E2726DS has the S2725DC’s USB-C connectivity; check the ports on the model you intend to buy.

Lenovo

Lenovo has QHD USB-C models relevant to a laptop-led programme workflow.

  • Lenovo specifies 75 W USB-C power delivery and a four-port USB hub for the L27h-4A; the ThinkVision P27QD-40 lists power delivery up to 140 W.
  • Those wattages are model-specific. Confirm your laptop’s USB-C video capability and charging requirement before planning a one-cable setup.

LG

LG’s 27BA450-B offers an adjustable Full HD office-monitor route; its 27U730A-B offers a 27-inch 4K IPS display with USB-C.

  • LG documents tilt, height, swivel and pivot adjustment for the 27BA450-B, and 90 W USB-C power delivery for the 27U730A-B.
  • Do not transfer the Full HD model’s stand specification to the 4K model. Check how the exact display would sit at your standing desk.

BenQ

BenQ’s RD270Q is a 27-inch QHD IPS option with positioning and connection features relevant to document-heavy work.

  • BenQ specifies 130 mm height adjustment, pivot and USB-C power delivery of 65 W for the RD270Q.
  • Check whether 65 W meets your laptop’s charging requirement and whether the stand range suits your desk.

Joybuy monitor choices

These monitors offer different screen formats for editing programme copy or reviewing visual layouts. Compare each model’s stated features with your standing position and laptop rather than treating screen size or resolution as a substitute for those checks.

Frequently asked questions

Where should the monitor sit when I work standing up?

Aim to place the top of the screen around eye level and the display about an arm’s length away, following Health and Safety Executive posture guidance. Check that the stand or a compatible arm can achieve that position at your actual desk height.

Will a USB-C monitor display my laptop screen and charge it?

Only if the laptop supports the required USB-C video connection and the monitor’s power delivery meets its charging needs. Check both specifications for the exact devices; a USB-C socket or a higher stated wattage alone does not establish compatibility.

Do UK display-screen equipment rules apply to programme work?

The Health and Safety Executive says the Display Screen Equipment Regulations apply to employers whose workers regularly use screens as a significant part of their normal work. Its positioning guidance can also help with a personal standing-desk setup, but employer duties are not automatically rules for an individual monitor purchase.

What if an online monitor purchase is unsuitable or arrives faulty?

For applicable UK distance sales, GOV.UK says customers can notify the seller that they wish to cancel within 14 days of receiving an item, then have another 14 days to return it. Faulty or misdescribed goods have separate statutory remedies; inspect the monitor promptly and tell the seller what is wrong rather than treating a fault solely as a change-of-mind return.
