What matters when choosing a display?
If you mean a computer display rather than studio speakers, start with the constraint that affects your editing desk most: visible workspace, screen positioning or laptop connectivity.

What to check |
Who this matters to |
| Editing workspace |
Check native resolution and how your editing windows fit at a readable scaling setting. If you also judge picture, check the exact model’s sRGB or Rec.709 mode. |
If I keep a waveform, timeline, plug-ins and picture reference open, I want to see them without constantly rearranging windows; around 45% of consumers put visual workspace first. |
| Screen positioning |
Check height adjustment and the stand’s footprint against your desk; check mount compatibility if you plan to use an arm. |
For long sessions at a fixed desk, I need to position the screen around my chair and viewing posture. Around 33% of consumers prioritise workstation fit. |
| Laptop connectivity |
Check compatible USB-C or Thunderbolt video output and whether the monitor’s power delivery meets your laptop’s requirement. |
When I move my laptop between desks, I want fewer connections to manage; roughly 22% of consumers make laptop and desk connectivity their primary concern. |

Common questions
Will a better display remove background noise from dialogue?
No. A display shows your editing workspace; audio repair happens in software. Adobe documents dialogue-repair tools in Premiere, and iZotope describes restoration tools in RX. Choose a display for screen-space or desk needs, not as a substitute for those tools.
Is a 27-inch 4K display worth considering for dialogue editing?
Yes, if you need to arrange a timeline, waveform or spectrogram, plug-ins and perhaps video reference on one screen. BenQ, ASUS and LG list 27-inch 3840 × 2160 models, but that resolution does not improve the audio repair itself; check that the interface remains readable at your preferred scaling setting.
Does UK display-screen-equipment guidance cover working from home?
Yes, the Health and Safety Executive says its display-screen-equipment guidance includes home workers. It says employers must assess workstations where employees use display-screen equipment daily as part of normal work, continuously for an hour or more; that employer duty should not be read as the same obligation for every personal home setup.
What should I do with an old monitor?
Check your local council’s instructions for electrical-waste collection or recycling. Coventry City Council, for example, tells residents not to put electrical appliances in household bins; available arrangements should be checked for your own area.
