What matters when choosing a pack?
Start with the dish and the number of meals planned, then check whether every ingredient suits the people eating it.

Who this matters to |
| Quantity and shape for a bake |
Match the recipe to a short shape such as penne, fusilli or macaroni, and check whether a 1 kg pack supplies the amount you need. |

| Pasta for several meals |
Plan the dishes before choosing between 1 kg and a larger bag; check the pack’s storage instructions. |
When pasta will feature in several family meals, I need a quantity I can use and store between them. For about 30% of consumers, planning across meals is the primary concern. |
| Dietary and allergen suitability |
Read the exact pasta label for wheat, gluten and egg information, and check any sauce separately for its ingredients and allergens. |

Questions about family-pack pasta
How much dry pasta should I plan for a family meal?
Start with your recipe and the pack instructions. For its cited bolognese sauce, Dolmio recommends 100 g dry pasta per person; a 1 kg pack would provide ten portions at that amount, before adjusting for the people eating and the rest of the meal.
Should I buy penne, fusilli or spaghetti for a pasta bake?
Choose the shape called for by your bake recipe; penne and fusilli are short-pasta options to consider for a dish mixed with sauce. Barilla describes its Fusilli N°98 as capturing sauce, but that is the manufacturer’s guidance for that product, not a test showing it outperforms other shapes. Spaghetti makes more sense when the planned dish calls for long pasta.
Is ordinary dried pasta gluten-free?
Do not assume so: M&S states that its standard fusilli contains durum wheat semolina and gluten. If you need a product without wheat or gluten, choose one labelled for that requirement and check its current ingredients and allergen information.
Do I need to check pasta-bake sauce for allergens too?
Yes. Sauce has its own ingredients, separate from the pasta: Dolmio states that its Creamy Tomato Pasta Bake sauce contains milk. Check the exact sauce and pasta labels when preparing a shared dish.
