Holiday-rental freezer planners
If you are buying for a summer-holiday stay, compare the number of lollies in a pack with the freezer space at your accommodation and the number of people sharing.
Who is choosing?
Shoppers looking for smaller portions
The Tesco examples range from 35ml to 80ml per lolly. Checking the individual volume is more useful than relying on “mini” when choosing a size for the occasion.
Ingredient-conscious shoppers
Fruit-ice and ice-cream formats have different ingredients. If milk or another allergen matters to your group, read the ingredients and allergen information on the exact pack.
What should you check?
Start with the individual portion, then check ingredients and whether the whole pack will fit in the holiday freezer.
| Priority | What to check | Your needs |
|---|---|---|
| Portion size | Compare ml per lolly, not just the “mini” label. Tesco lists Mini Milk at 35ml each, Twister Mini Tropical at 50ml and Calippo Mini at 80ml. | I want a smaller individual portion, or a larger fruit-ice lolly, that suits the people sharing. |
| Ingredients | Check the exact pack’s ingredients and highlighted allergens. Tesco describes Twister Mini Tropical as made with milk despite its gluten-free recipe; Mini Milk is an ice-cream lolly. | Someone in the group needs to avoid an ingredient, so a fruit flavour or gluten-free claim alone will not settle the choice. |
| Freezer space | Check pack count and available freezer space before buying. The Tesco examples contain five Calippo Minis, six Twister Minis or 12 Mini Milk lollies; follow the product and freezer instructions. | There needs to be room to keep the whole pack frozen during our stay. |
Common buying mistakes
-
Assuming every “mini” lolly is the same size
The Tesco examples are 35ml, 50ml and 80ml per lolly, so the label alone does not tell you the individual portion.
Compare the per-lolly volume first, then the number in the pack.
-
Using flavour or a gluten-free claim to judge milk content
Tesco describes Twister Mini Tropical as both made with milk and gluten-free. A fruit flavour does not answer an allergen question either.
Read the ingredients and allergen information on the exact pack, particularly if someone needs to avoid milk.
-
Buying a multipack before checking the freezer
A pack of five, six or 12 lollies needs space to stay frozen throughout the holiday stay.
Check that the accommodation has usable freezer space before buying for the trip, and follow the storage instructions on the pack.

Calippo
The Tesco-listed Orange & Lemon-Lime Mini is a five-pack of 80ml ice lollies for shoppers considering a larger individual portion within these examples.
- Five lollies per pack.
- At 80ml each, these are larger than the 35ml Mini Milk and 50ml Twister Mini Tropical examples.
Twister
Tesco lists Twister Mini Tropical as six 50ml ice-cream lollies with fruit-ice flavours.
- A 50ml individual portion in the checked Tropical pack.

Questions about mini ice lollies
Does “mini” mean the same portion size in every pack?
No. Tesco lists the checked Mini Milk lollies at 35ml each, Twister Mini Tropical at 50ml and Calippo Mini at 80ml. Compare the per-lolly volume alongside pack count.
Can I use the pack name to tell whether a lolly contains milk?
No. Tesco describes Twister Mini Tropical as made with milk, and Mini Milk is an ice-cream product. Read the ingredients and allergen information on the exact pack if milk needs to be avoided.
Does gluten-free mean dairy-free?
No. Tesco describes its Twister Mini Tropical product as both gluten-free and made with milk. Check milk content separately on the pack.
Should I buy a multipack before travelling?
Buy it before travelling only if you can keep it frozen and have usable freezer space at the accommodation. Compare the pack count with the space available, then follow the product’s storage instructions.
