What to check before buying
Start with the screen position you need when standing; then decide how much document space, laptop connectivity and free desk surface matter to your proposal workflow.
| Concern |
What to check |
Who this matters to |
| Screen position |
Check the stand’s height range at both desk heights, or confirm that a suitable arm or clamp mount fits your desk. |
If I alternate between sitting and standing, I need the screen to remain at a comfortable eye level rather than following the desk to an awkward height. Around 33% of consumers put screen positioning first. |
| Document space |
Compare screen size and native resolution together, allowing for your desk depth and preferred text scaling. |
When I review a proposal beside its brief or supporting material, I want a readable layout without constantly rearranging windows. Document workspace is the primary concern for around 27% of consumers. |
| Laptop connection |
Check USB-C video support and compare the monitor’s power delivery with your laptop’s charging requirement. |
If my laptop moves on and off the standing desk, I would rather reconnect fewer cables, provided the display and charging functions both work. Around 20% of consumers prioritise that connection. |
| Free desk space |
Measure the base or intended clamp position alongside the space needed for your keyboard, laptop and papers. |
I need room to annotate notes while I write, so the space taken by the screen setup matters more to me than a larger panel. Preserving desk space comes first for around 20% of consumers. |

Questions about standing-desk monitors
Where should the screen sit when I write while standing?
Aim to place the top of the screen level with your eyes and the display about an arm’s length away, following Health and Safety Executive guidance. Check that your chosen stand or mount can achieve that position at your desk’s standing height, with the screen and keyboard in front of you.
Do I need a special monitor for a standing desk?
Not necessarily: the monitor needs to work within an adjustable workstation suited to you and your task. The Health and Safety Executive says employers must assess workstations for employees who use display screen equipment daily as part of normal work for continuous periods of an hour or more.
Can standing replace breaks from screen work?
No. The Health and Safety Executive advises short, frequent breaks or changes of activity during display-screen work. Adjusting your posture and workstation remains important even when the monitor is well positioned.
Will a USB-C monitor charge my laptop?
Only if the particular monitor, laptop port and cable support the functions you need, and the monitor supplies suitable charging power. For comparison, Dell lists up to 90 W for the P2425HE, BenQ lists 65 W for the GW2790QT and LG lists up to 60 W for the 32UN880K-B; check your laptop’s requirements against the exact model you intend to buy.
Should I check for CE or UKCA marking in Great Britain?
Check which product requirements apply to the exact monitor. GOV.UK guidance dated 21 August 2026 says Great Britain continues to recognise CE marking alongside or instead of UKCA marking where the applicable product regulations meet UK requirements. Northern Ireland has different processes, so that Great Britain guidance should not be treated as its marking rule.
