What matters when choosing?
Decide first whether this workstation will approve image colour or mainly organise gallery work. Then check how different users will position the screen and connect their laptops.
| Concern |
What to check |
Who this matters to |
| Repeatable colour |
Match the available colour modes to the intended output; check how the team will calibrate the display over time. |
If I approve photographs for print or controlled presentation, I need colour decisions the team can reproduce. Around 36% of consumers put repeatable colour first. |
| Shared-desk fit |
Check height and angle adjustment, or compatible mounting, against each desk’s seating and lighting. |
When several people use my desk, I need to restore a comfortable viewing position without struggling with glare; around 29% of consumers prioritise shared-desk fit. |
| Laptop connections |
Confirm video-over-USB-C support and compare the monitor’s power-delivery rating with each laptop’s charging requirements. |
I move my laptop between workstations and want to reconnect without rebuilding the desk setup. Laptop connectivity comes first for around 21% of consumers. |
| Task-appropriate display |
Decide whether QHD provides enough image detail, or whether the work calls for 4K and a managed colour workflow. |
If I mainly write captions and organise files, I do not need to choose specialist photo-workflow features for that desk; around 14% of consumers put administrative use first. |

BenQ
BenQ positions the 27-inch 4K SW272U for photography work requiring a managed colour workflow.
- BenQ specifies 99% Adobe RGB and 99% P3 coverage, hardware calibration and a supplied shading hood for the SW272U.
- Those features are most relevant when the team will maintain a colour workflow for image approval or output.
ASUS ProArt
The 27-inch 4K PA279CRV combines wide-gamut specifications with connections and adjustment for a shared creative desk.
- ASUS specifies 99% Adobe RGB and 99% DCI-P3 coverage, USB-C power delivery up to 96 W, a USB hub and an adjustable stand.
- ASUS’s factory-calibration claim does not replace a plan for maintaining colour consistency across shared workstations.
EIZO ColorEdge
EIZO positions the 27-inch 4K CG2700X for colour-managed photography and post-production work.
- EIZO states that its built-in sensor can recalibrate the CG2700X automatically at scheduled times.
- Scheduled recalibration is useful when the office will also define and maintain the rest of its colour workflow.
Dell UltraSharp
Dell’s 27-inch QHD U2724D addresses adjustable shared-office use rather than an established print-proofing workflow.
- Dell lists height adjustment up to 150 mm, with pivot, swivel and tilt.
- If Adobe RGB or print-oriented approval is required, check the U2724D’s current colour-gamut and calibration documentation before choosing it.

Common questions
Does a shared office need a particular monitor model to meet display-screen rules?
No particular model or colour gamut is prescribed by the UK display-screen equipment rules. The Health and Safety Executive says employers must assess workstations for applicable display-screen users and address identified risks, so the monitor should be considered alongside its position and the desk setup.
Will a wide-gamut monitor make printed gallery images match the screen?
No: gamut coverage alone does not establish a screen-to-print match. Calibrite’s colour-management guidance stresses calibration; agree on the intended colour space, display mode, calibration process and print workflow before using a monitor for proofing decisions.
How should staff position a monitor at a shared desk?
The Health and Safety Executive advises placing the top of the screen around eye level, about an arm’s length away, with the screen in front of the user. Check that the stand or a compatible mount lets each person restore a suitable position.
What should the office do with monitors it replaces?
Arrange an appropriate business electrical-waste collection or recycling route rather than putting old monitors in ordinary waste. GOV.UK identifies the UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013, as amended, as the framework for recovery, reuse and recycling; confirm the collection arrangement with the organisation’s provider.
