Text-focused language learners
If you read prompts while checking what you have typed, or keep a lesson and reference text open together, text size and usable screen space will shape your choice.
Choose a monitor for foreign-language typing around readable text at your usual desk distance, a screen position you can maintain during longer sessions, and a connection that works with your computer. A 27-inch QHD model is a useful starting point for viewing exercises beside reference material; consider 4K if you want denser text and are willing to adjust display scaling. The monitor will not add a language keyboard: configure the required input source in Windows or macOS separately.
If you read prompts while checking what you have typed, or keep a lesson and reference text open together, text size and usable screen space will shape your choice.
If you spend extended periods at the desk, consider whether you can position the screen comfortably as well as read its text. The Health and Safety Executive advises considering screen height and viewing distance as part of workstation setup.
If you connect a laptop for practice, check its video-output connection before choosing a monitor. A USB-C socket alone does not establish that a particular laptop and monitor will support the video and charging arrangement you want.
Start with text size and the space your exercises need, then check whether the screen can be positioned at your desk and connected to your computer.
| Concern | What to check | Who this matters to |
|---|---|---|
| Readable text and workspace | Compare native resolution at the same screen size, then assess text at your usual viewing distance with comfortable display scaling. | If I keep a typing exercise beside prompts or character references, I need both to remain readable without constant window switching. Around 42% of consumers put this text-and-workspace need first. |
| Screen positioning | Check height, tilt, swivel and pivot separately; if using an arm, confirm the monitor and mount are compatible. | During longer practice sessions, I need to place the screen where I can read it without working around a fixed stand. This is the primary concern for around 33% of consumers. |
| Laptop connection | Confirm your laptop's video-output mode and the monitor's ports; check power delivery and the required cable if charging matters. | If I bring a laptop to the desk, I want a connection that handles my display needs without repeated cable changes. Around 25% of consumers chiefly prioritise that connection. |
A display shows your typing exercise but does not provide the keyboard layout or input source needed to enter another language.
Before buying, check how to add and switch the required input source on your computer. Microsoft Support documents keyboard layouts in Windows, and Apple Support documents input sources on Mac.
BenQ lists its 27-inch GW2790P at 1920 × 1080, while its 27-inch GW2790QT is a QHD model. The same physical screen size therefore does not tell you how densely text will appear.
Compare resolution at the same size and, if possible, view similar text at your normal desk distance before deciding.
Display features do not replace suitable screen positioning. The Health and Safety Executive advises placing the top of the screen around eye level and the screen about an arm's length away.
Check the stand's actual adjustments. If you plan to use a monitor arm, confirm mounting compatibility and the arm's supported load.
A separate compatible arm may be needed if the supplied stand cannot reach a suitable position.
A USB-C connector does not, by itself, establish the video-output capability of your laptop or the charging power a monitor can deliver.
Compare your laptop's supported output and power requirements with the exact monitor's connection specifications, including the cable needed.
BenQ offers two different 27-inch routes relevant to text-based practice: the QHD GW2790QT and the Full HD GW2790P.
The UltraSharp U2724D is a 27-inch QHD model to consider if stand adjustment is important to your desk setup.
LG's 27UP85ZK-W is a 27-inch 4K option for a desk where display density, USB-C and stand positioning matter.
The ProArt PA278QV is a 27-inch WQHD alternative if you want an adjustable display and several types of display connection.
These QHD and 4K monitor choices can display typing exercises alongside reference material. Compare each model's physical fit, positioning and computer connections with your own setup.

No. A monitor displays the interface, while the computer's keyboard layout or input source controls language entry. Microsoft Support explains how to manage layouts in Windows, and Apple Support explains how to add input sources on Mac.
No: 4K is a choice if you value a denser display for detailed reference material and can set comfortable scaling. A 27-inch QHD model is another route for exercises beside reference windows; assess text size at your own viewing distance rather than treating resolution alone as a comfort measure.
The Health and Safety Executive advises positioning the top of the screen around eye level and the display about an arm's length away. Check whether the monitor's stand or a compatible arm lets you arrange the screen suitably at your desk.
Check the current product listing for its connections, included cables, availability, warranty details and the seller's return terms. Consider how a change-of-mind return is handled separately from a remedy for a faulty, damaged or misdescribed product.
