Who needs which setup?

Detail-focused document reviewers

If you compare long passages, tables and tracked changes, extra vertical screen space can help you keep more of a report visible. LG UK specifies a 16:10, 2560 × 1600 panel for the +view 16MR70.

Hot-desk report reviewers

If you move between desks or meeting spaces, consider the complete carrying setup, how the screen stands beside your laptop and where its power comes from. Lenovo documents stand adjustment and USB-C power pass-through for the ThinkVision M15.

Mixed-device collaborators

If you need touch input or an alternative to USB-C video, check those features on the exact model. ASUS lists 10-point touch and mini HDMI on the ZenScreen Touch MB16AMTR; they are not features of every ZenScreen display.

What matters when choosing?

For reviewing draft reports at a shared desk, decide how much document space you need, confirm the laptop connection and power arrangement, then assess the monitor and stand as a complete portable setup.

ConcernWhat to checkWho this matters to
Text workspace Compare resolution and aspect ratio; check whether display scaling makes report text comfortable to read. When I compare tables with tracked changes, I want room for the draft and comments without constant switching. Around 42% of consumers put text workspace first.
Connection and power Confirm laptop video output and the monitor’s power requirements, including any charger and cable conditions. I cannot assume my laptop’s USB-C port sends video, and I need a power setup that works at each desk. For around 33% of consumers, connection and power certainty is the primary concern.
Portable setup Check carrying weight with accessories and whether the stand can reach a useful height and angle. Moving between shared desks makes a screen’s carrying setup and position beside my laptop important. Portable setup comes first for around 25% of consumers.

Checks before you buy

  • Assuming every USB-C port sends video

A USB-C connector does not by itself establish display-output capability. ASUS support says a plug-and-play USB-C video connection requires the relevant video function on both computer and monitor.

Check your laptop’s port documentation for DisplayPort Alt Mode or another specified display output. If you need HDMI as an alternative, confirm that the exact monitor has an HDMI input and how it is powered.

  • Overlooking power during a long review

LG UK says the +view 16MR70 draws power from the connected laptop rather than an internal battery, so laptop battery life matters away from a power socket.

Check the exact monitor’s power requirements, charger connection and cable capability before planning a shared-desk setup.

LG says a suitable USB-C charger may be needed separately when the laptop battery is low.

  • Choosing by panel weight alone

A light panel may still be awkward to position beside a laptop for sustained reading. Published panel weights also need not describe everything you carry.

Check the stand’s adjustment and compare the setup with its cover, cables and any charger you expect to take between desks.

  • Treating electrical marking as identical across the UK

Department for Business and Trade guidance dated 31 March 2026 lists UKCA or CE marking for electrical equipment placed on the Great Britain market, and CE or UKNI together with CE for Northern Ireland.

Check the marking appropriate to where the monitor will be supplied, rather than relying on an unclear listing photograph.

Relevant brands and models

LG

LG UK positions the +view 16MR70 as a 16-inch portable extension to a laptop workspace; its connection requirements are not limited to LG laptops.

  • LG specifies a 2560 × 1600, 16:10 panel, two USB-C ports and a 660 g panel weight.
  • The 16MR70 has no internal battery. LG specifies DisplayPort Alt Mode and USB Power Delivery above 7.5 W from the connected device.

Lenovo

Lenovo’s ThinkVision M15 is a 15.6-inch Full HD portable monitor intended for a second-screen workspace.

  • Lenovo documents two USB-C ports, power pass-through, tilt and height adjustment, and an 860 g monitor weight.
  • Its Full HD 16:9 panel has fewer pixels and less vertical screen space than the LG +view 16MR70’s 2560 × 1600, 16:10 panel; check whether that matters for your report layout.

ASUS

ASUS’s ZenScreen models cover different connection and interaction needs, so the model name matters when comparing features.

  • ASUS specifies a 15.6-inch Full HD anti-glare panel for the MB16ACE; the MB16AMTR instead offers 10-point touch, mini HDMI and a built-in battery.
  • ASUS lists the touch-enabled MB16AMTR at 1.15 kg. Its extra features may be unnecessary if your main task is reading and comparing text.

Frequently asked questions

Will any USB-C laptop port work with a portable monitor?

No. ASUS support says plug-and-play USB-C video requires the appropriate video function on both the laptop and monitor. Check the laptop’s port documentation before choosing a USB-C-only display; other USB display approaches may require a driver.

Does the LG +view 16MR70 have its own battery?

No. LG UK says the 16MR70 is powered by the connected laptop and requires DisplayPort Alt Mode and USB Power Delivery above 7.5 W. LG also says a separately sold suitable USB-C charger can be used when the laptop battery is low.

Which electrical marking should I check for a UK purchase?

Check the marking applicable to the market where the monitor is supplied. Department for Business and Trade guidance dated 31 March 2026 lists UKCA or CE for electrical equipment placed on the Great Britain market, and CE or UKNI together with CE for Northern Ireland. Confirm the marking for the specific product rather than assuming a listing photograph establishes it.

What should I do with an old portable monitor?

Look for a local-authority or retailer electrical-equipment collection option when replacing it. UK government guidance on waste electrical and electronic equipment describes measures intended to encourage recovery, reuse and recycling.
