Who each setup suits

Small-desk meeting recorder

If one or two people regularly join from the desk, a monitor with a webcam, microphone and speakers can reduce the need to position separate meeting devices. LG UK lists these components for its 24BA850-B; recording still takes place through a connected service such as Microsoft Teams.

Laptop-led meeting organiser

If your camera and audio equipment are already suitable, a USB-C hub display may make charging, wired networking and peripheral connections the more useful priorities. Dell UK and LG UK list different combinations of these connections for the P2425HE and 24BA750-B.

Decision-review workstation user

If recording is handled separately, focus on fitting the screen, stand and documents onto the desk. BenQ UK provides stand dimensions for the GW2490TC, while the Health and Safety Executive advises positioning a display roughly an arm’s length away with its top at eye level.

What matters when choosing

Integrated meeting monitor

Choose when: One or two regular participants need a camera, microphone and speakers at a crowded desk; LG UK lists all three on the 24BA850-B.

Trade-off: The connected computer and meeting service still handle recording and storage, and a larger or noisier room may call for separately positioned equipment.

USB-C hub monitor

Choose when: Suitable meeting peripherals are already in place and laptop charging, networking or shared desk accessories matter more.

Trade-off: Plan space and connections for the camera and microphone; check the laptop’s video-output and charging requirements before relying on one cable.

Compact document-review monitor

Choose when: A separate setup already handles the meeting and the desk mainly needs a screen for agendas and minutes.

Trade-off: If laptop charging or meeting capture later becomes part of this station, check what additional connections and peripherals the setup will require.

ConcernWhat to checkWho this matters to
Meeting hardware Check for a webcam, microphone and speakers; separately confirm the computer, meeting account and platform’s recording arrangements. When one or two people join from a crowded desk, I want meeting equipment without several separate devices. Around 36% of consumers put integrated meeting hardware first.
Desk fit Measure usable width, depth and cable clearance against the complete stand; check adjustment or mounting options. If papers and a laptop share my desk, the stand must leave room to work and let me position the screen comfortably. Desk fit is the first concern for around 29% of consumers.
Laptop docking Confirm USB-C video compatibility, charging requirements and the Ethernet or USB ports you need. I already have meeting peripherals, so connecting my laptop and desk accessories without a tangle of cables matters most. Around 21% of consumers prioritise docking.
Document review Check display size and resolution, the required signal connection and whether speakers are useful for playback. With recording handled elsewhere, I mainly need to read agendas and minutes at this desk. That straightforward display need comes first for around 14% of consumers.

Buying pitfalls

  • A built-in webcam does not make a monitor a recorder

A camera and microphone supply meeting inputs, but the connected meeting platform handles capture. Microsoft Support says Teams recordings can include audio, video and screen sharing; availability can depend on the meeting setup and account permissions.

Test the intended computer and account before relying on them for a committee meeting. Establish who can start a recording and how it will be accessed, retained and deleted.

The workflow may also require a suitable meeting-platform licence, IT configuration and storage arrangements.

  • Panel size is not the stand’s footprint

A nominally compact screen can still take up valuable desk depth. BenQ UK specifies the GW2490TC at 539.8 mm wide and 241.6 mm deep with its stand.

Measure the desk with the laptop, papers and cable clearance in mind. If considering an arm, check the monitor’s mounting pattern and the desk’s mounting point; position the screen in line with Health and Safety Executive posture guidance.

An arm needs a compatible mounting point and space to move safely.

  • USB-C does not guarantee suitable laptop charging

Charging capacity differs between models. BenQ UK specifies 20W USB-C power delivery for the GW2490TC, while Dell UK specifies up to 90W for the P2425HE.

Compare the exact monitor variant’s power-delivery rating with the laptop’s requirement, and confirm that the laptop’s USB-C port supports the video connection you intend to use.

A separate laptop charger or dock may still be needed.

  • Recording governance is not a monitor setting

Committee recordings can contain personal data. The UK Information Commissioner’s Office says organisations must identify a valid lawful basis for collecting and using personal data and be clear about that use.

Before recording, follow the organisation’s process for deciding whether to record, notifying participants and setting access, retention and deletion arrangements.

Relevant brands to consider

LG

LG UK lists two distinct 23.8-inch meeting-desk configurations: the 24BA850-B with integrated video-meeting hardware and the 24BA750-B with hub features.

  • The 24BA850-B combines a Full HD webcam, microphone and speakers with USB-C power delivery up to 90W. The 24BA750-B lists KVM, RJ45 and four downstream USB ports.
  • Neither configuration alone establishes a recording, storage or records-management workflow; choose according to the peripherals and connections your meeting setup needs.

Dell

Dell UK positions the P2425HE as a 23.8-inch USB-C hub display for a laptop-led workstation.

  • Dell UK specifies up to 90W power delivery, 1GbE RJ45 and height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustment for the P2425HE.
  • The P2425HE configuration described here has no integrated webcam; allow room and connections for suitable meeting peripherals.

BenQ

BenQ UK specifies the GW2490TC for a compact document-review setup with speakers, stand adjustment and VESA mounting.

  • The GW2490TC has 2W × 2 speakers, 100 × 100 mm VESA mounting and a stated stand depth of 241.6 mm.
  • Its specified 20W USB-C power delivery needs checking against the intended laptop’s charging requirement; plan meeting capture separately.

Common questions

Can a monitor record committee decisions by itself?

Treat the monitor as a display and, where fitted, a source of camera and microphone input—not as the recording system. Microsoft Support says Teams can record meeting audio, video and screen sharing; confirm that the intended account and meeting setup permit recording and that the organisation has arrangements to manage the resulting record.

When is a built-in webcam worth considering?

It is worth considering when one or two regular participants need meeting inputs at a desk with little room for separate devices. LG UK lists an integrated webcam, microphone and speakers for the 24BA850-B; a separately positioned camera or microphone may better suit a different room layout or audio requirement.

How should I position a monitor on a small desk?

Start by checking the full stand footprint against the space left for the laptop, keyboard, papers and cables. The Health and Safety Executive advises placing the display directly in front of you, with its top roughly level with your eyes and the screen about an arm’s length away; an adjustable stand or compatible arm can help.

Does the monitor determine whether a UK committee recording complies with data-protection rules?

No: where a recording contains personal data, the organisation’s processing decisions matter independently of the monitor. The UK Information Commissioner’s Office says organisations must identify a valid lawful basis and be clear, open and honest about how personal data is used; follow the organisation’s recording, notice, access and retention arrangements.

What should I check before ordering the rest of the setup?

Confirm the required cables, mounting accessories, camera and microphone arrangements alongside the monitor’s desk footprint and laptop compatibility. If recording depends on a meeting service, check that the intended account can use its recording feature and that the organisation can store and manage the recording appropriately.
