Who is the pack for?

Families sharing snacks on day trips

Count sealed portions before packing for several people. Nature Valley’s cited family pack has 20 bars but ten two-bar wrappers, whereas the nakd. variety pack listed by Ocado has 18 individually wrapped bars.

Groups with different dietary requirements

Check each intended eater’s requirements against the ingredients and allergen information for every flavour. A gluten-free or vegan description does not, by itself, answer questions about nuts, milk or soya.

People packing for themselves

A three-bar multipack may be easier to plan around than a large mixed box for a short trip. If a protein figure matters to your choice, compare it alongside the bar weight and the rest of the nutrition panel.

What should you check before buying?

Start with the number of sealed portions needed, then check flavour suitability, the nutrition panel and the pack’s storage instructions.

Priority What to check Your needs
Shareable portions Count bars and separate wrappers. Compare the stated weight per bar; the cited packs range from 35g to 50g per bar. I need enough sealed portions for the people and snack occasions planned, without counting two bars in one wrapper as two separately packed snacks.
Flavour mix Check which flavours are included and how many packs contain each one. Decide whether a mixed box or a known single flavour is easier to share. Different people may want different flavours, but I do not want a large box containing bars that the group will leave uneaten.
Ingredients and allergens Read the ingredients, emphasised allergens and any ‘may contain’ statements on the exact pack. Check flavours separately where their recipes differ. Everyone sharing needs a bar that fits their own requirements; a vegan or gluten-free label alone does not settle other allergen questions.
Nutrition per bar Compare energy, sugars, fibre and protein against each bar’s stated serving weight. Use per-100g figures when comparing bars of different sizes. I want to compare what one bar provides, rather than assume that ‘protein’ or ‘no added sugar’ describes its whole nutrition profile.
Storage and dates Check the best-before date and follow the storage instruction on the chosen pack. Keep individually wrapped portions sealed until needed. The bars need to suit my travel dates and the way I can store them during the trip.

Common packing mistakes

  • Counting bars instead of sealed portions

Nature Valley UK describes its cited family variety pack as 20 bars in ten two-bar packs. Opening one wrapper may not suit a plan to hand out one sealed bar at a time.

Count separate wrappers as well as bars before deciding how many packs to take.

  • Choosing a mixed box before checking every flavour

Recipes can differ within a variety pack, so a dietary description for one bar should not stand in for the ingredients of the whole selection.

Check the exact assortment and each relevant ingredient and allergen statement. A single-flavour pack may make planning simpler when the group has a narrow requirement.

  • Judging nutrition from the front of the pack

In its November 2025 review of 458 snack bars from ten major retailers, Action on Salt & Sugar classified 37% as high in sugars. That product audit does not describe every bar: serving weights and nutrition panels still need checking individually.

Compare the figures per stated bar serving, then use per-100g values to compare differently sized bars.

  • Assuming a bulk box has a fixed assortment

An Amazon UK listing for a Graze variety box notes that packaging may vary. A previous box is therefore not a reliable description of the next one’s selection.

Check the current assortment and the ingredients and nutrition information on the pack you receive before setting bars aside for particular people.

Brand and range references

Pack format and dietary details vary by product, so use these brand examples to narrow your checks rather than treating a brand name as a pack specification.

Nature Valley

Nature Valley UK lists a Crunchy Variety Family Pack containing 20 bars in ten two-bar packs across three flavours.

  • The stated wrapper count helps plan paired portions.
  • It does not provide 20 separately sealed bars; check the current ingredients for everyone sharing.

nakd.

Ocado lists an 18 x 35g fruit-and-nut variety pack with six flavours.

  • Its individually wrapped bars allow portions to be handed out separately.
  • Check the ingredients of each flavour where nuts or other restrictions matter; ‘no added sugar’ does not mean sugar-free.

TREK

TREK lists plant-based protein bar ranges, and Tesco lists a three-pack of 50g Peanut Butter Protein Flapjacks with 9g protein per bar.

  • A stated per-bar protein amount and serving weight allow a specific nutrition-panel comparison.
  • Three bars will not cover many group snack occasions; check the exact flavour’s allergen information.

Eat Natural

Morrisons lists a three-pack of individually wrapped Salted Caramel & Nuts bars.

  • The small pack size is straightforward to count for a short trip.
  • Check its nut and other allergen information before sharing, and follow the pack’s cool, dry storage instruction.

Graze

An Amazon UK listing describes a Graze oat-bar variety box containing 32 x 30g bars; Graze says its snacks are vegetarian and most are vegan.

  • The listed bar count provides a starting point for planning a larger group’s portions.
  • Packaging may vary, and a brand-wide dietary statement does not establish the status of each bar in a particular box.

Alpen

Alpen’s UK product-availability information lists some former bar varieties among products no longer made.

  • For an Alpen multipack, check a current product listing and its pack label rather than relying on an older bar name.

Frequently asked questions

How many people will a snack-bar multipack serve?

Count sealed wrappers as well as bars, then allow for the people and snack occasions you have planned. Nature Valley UK lists its cited 20-bar family variety pack as ten two-bar packs, while Ocado lists the nakd. variety pack as 18 individually wrapped bars.

Does vegan or gluten-free mean a bar is suitable for everyone?

No. Those descriptions do not answer every allergen question. Check the ingredients and any ‘may contain’ wording for the exact bar and flavour before sharing it with someone who has an allergy.

What allergen details should I check on a pre-packed bar?

Check the ingredients list, its emphasised allergens and any product-specific precautionary statement. GOV.UK guidance says the allergens required to be declared for pre-packed food must be emphasised within the ingredients list; check each flavour in a mixed pack where recipes differ.

How should I store bars on a summer trip?

Follow the storage instruction and best-before information on the exact pack, and leave wrapped portions sealed until needed. Morrisons lists a cool, dry storage instruction for the cited Eat Natural multipack; other products should be checked individually.

Can I compare protein bars by the protein figure alone?

No. Compare the stated serving weight and full nutrition panel as well as protein. Tesco lists 9g protein per 50g bar for its cited TREK Peanut Butter flapjack; that figure should not be assumed for a different flavour or bar size.
