What matters when choosing?
Start with where you will watch the quiz shows: live broadcaster channels, catch-up apps or both. Then check the connection and controls you need in the home-cinema room. An available HDMI input and internet access are basic installation requirements.

What to check |
Who this matters to |
| Live and catch-up access |
Check Freely availability or the exact device's ITVX and Channel 4 app support. |
If I switch between live quiz shows and catch-up, I want to find the programmes without moving through several apps. Around 36% of consumers put broadcaster access first. |
| Connection in the cinema room |
Check reception at the installation point and whether Ethernet is built in or needs an adaptor. |
When the screen is far from my router, I want a connection that works reliably where the streamer will sit. For around 29% of consumers, a stable connection is the primary need. |
| Picture and sound compatibility |
Match required 4K, HDR and audio formats across the programme, device, HDMI path, display and sound equipment. |
If I use a projector and AV receiver, I care whether the formats I choose can pass through the entire setup. Around 21% of consumers prioritise that compatibility. |
| Controls and ecosystem |
Check the remote, account requirements, voice controls and casting features you would use. |
When several people use the screen, I want controls and accounts they can navigate comfortably. Familiar operation comes first for around 14% of consumers. |

Common questions
Do I need a TV Licence to watch a quiz show on a streaming device?
You need a UK TV Licence if you watch the programme live on any service or use BBC iPlayer, including for on-demand viewing, according to TV Licensing. Watching only on-demand programmes on services other than BBC iPlayer does not itself require one, provided you do not also watch live TV.
Can I watch ITV quiz shows on the main streaming platforms?
ITVX lists Amazon Fire, Google TV, Freely, Roku and Apple TV with tvOS 18 or later among its supported platforms. Check the exact device and software version; ITVX specifies Roku firmware v15.1 or later for continued app updates after its stated change.
What do I need to install a streamer in a home cinema?
Check for an available HDMI input, internet access and power at the installation point, then check the chosen device's cable and connection requirements. Google specifies a separately sold certified HDMI 2.1 cable for Google TV Streamer (4K); Freely states a minimum broadband speed of 10Mbps for live internet channels and on-demand viewing on its streaming devices.
Will a 4K streamer make live quiz shows appear in 4K?
Not necessarily: the programme stream and your display setup must also support 4K. Manhattan says Freely live channels are not broadcast in 4K, even though its Aero streamer supports 4K output.
