Hosts counting portions
Work out how many filled wraps you intend to serve. Packs differ in tortilla count and size, so the same number of wraps will not always make the same-sized portions.
Start with the number and size of portions you need, then compare packs on that basis. Plain wheat wraps suit standard filled portions; consider mini wraps for smaller servings, wholemeal for its stated fibre content, or a clearly labelled gluten-free product when a guest needs one. Plan for the fillings and their outdoor storage separately.

Mini wraps offer a smaller individual portion. Check the pack description rather than treating an eight-pack of minis as interchangeable with eight full-size wraps.
Wholemeal and gluten-free wraps address different requirements: wholemeal wheat wraps still contain wheat. For a guest who needs gluten-free food, check the purchased wrap and every filling.
Set the intended serving size and guest count first, then check the wrap formulation and the storage needs of the fillings.
| Priority | What to check | Your needs |
|---|---|---|
| Portion count | Check the number of tortillas and plan how many filled portions you will make. A pack of eight tortillas does not necessarily provide eight complete meals. | I want enough wraps for the guests and fillings I have planned. |
| Wrap size | Check whether the pack contains mini or full-size wraps, alongside its count and weight. Asda lists both formats in eight-packs. | For smaller servings, I would choose minis; for larger individual wraps, I would check a full-size pack. |
| Formulation | Compare fibre figures only for the specific products listed. Check the purchased pack for gluten-free labelling, wheat and other relevant allergen information. | I may want the stated fibre content of a wholemeal wrap, or a specifically labelled gluten-free option for a guest. Those are different choices. |
| Outdoor storage | Follow the fillings’ storage directions and check the wrap pack’s instructions after opening. Food Standards Scotland advises a cool bag or box with ice for picnic foods normally kept refrigerated. | If I am preparing wraps with chilled fillings, I need a way to keep them cool during transport and until serving. |
Listings include mini and full-size eight-packs as well as six-packs. Pack count alone does not tell you whether the tortillas suit your planned servings.
Decide how many portions you need, then check each pack’s count, format and weight.
Wholemeal wheat wraps still contain wheat, and a suitable wrap does not establish that its fillings meet a guest’s dietary requirements.
Check the actual wrap label, relevant precautionary information and every filling for the guest concerned.
Prepared wraps containing fillings normally kept refrigerated need suitable storage during transport and outdoor serving.
Follow the fillings’ directions. Food Standards Scotland advises taking a cool bag or box with ice and keeping it closed until needed.

A wheat flour tortilla option for standard filled wraps. The pack is 326g; check its stated tortilla count before planning portions, and choose a different formulation if a guest needs gluten-free food.
It contains eight tortillas, but that does not establish eight complete meals. Decide how many smaller portions and how much filling you intend to serve; check the pack weight and format if you are also considering full-size wraps.
Not on the strength of being wholemeal: the listed Sainsbury’s wholemeal wrap contains wheat. Choose a product specifically labelled gluten-free when that is required, and check the purchased pack and fillings for the guest’s particular needs.
Follow the fillings’ storage requirements. Food Standards Scotland advises keeping picnic foods normally stored in the fridge cool in a bag or box with ice, and keeping it closed until needed.
Not every tortilla needs heating: Ocado’s listing says M&S Soft Tortilla Wraps can be served warm or cold. Follow the instructions on the particular pack you buy, and handle any chilled fillings according to their own storage directions.
Follow that pack’s storage instructions rather than applying another product’s directions. For example, Tesco says its plain white eight-pack should be refrigerated once opened and consumed within two days.
