Product Description
Canard-Duchêne Léonie Brut NV Champagne is a tribute to the founders of the house, Victor Canard and Léonie Duchêne, whose union in 1868 established a legacy of excellence in the heart of France’s Champagne region. Named after the visionary co-founder Léonie Duchêne, this cuvée reflects the unique terroir of the Montagne de Reims, where chalk-rich soils and a cool climate yield grapes of exceptional acidity and complexity. Crafted from a precise blend of Pinot Noir (45%), Chardonnay (35%), and Pinot Meunier (20%), the wine undergoes traditional méthode champenoise, aging for over three years on lees to develop its distinctive depth and fine, persistent bubbles. The result is a vibrant straw-colored champagne with aromas of toasted brioche, mocha, and candied fruit, culminating in a palate that balances freshness with structured elegance. As one of the few houses granted the honor of bearing the Russian imperial double-headed eagle emblem—awarded after winning the favor of Tsar Nicholas II in 1898—Canard-Duchêne infuses each bottle with historical prestige and artisanal dedication .
On the nose, Léonie Brut opens with inviting notes of toasted almonds, mocha, and candied citrus, complemented by subtle hints of gingerbread and fresh pastry—a testament to extended lees aging. The palate is medium-bodied and impeccably balanced, offering flavors of ripe pear, white peach, and red apple, supported by a crisp, vibrant acidity that carries the wine to a clean, lingering finish. Its fine mousse and creamy texture make it exceptionally versatile: serve chilled at 8°C as an aperitif, or pair with delicate seafood like oysters and grilled fish, soft cheeses, or even lightly spiced Asian cuisine. The wine’s dosage is limited to 7g/L, aligning with the Brut classification, which allows the purity of the fruit and terroir to shine while providing a touch of roundness. Ideal for both casual gatherings and formal celebrations, it embodies a harmonious blend of power and finesse, appealing to connoisseurs and newcomers alike .
